Industry and Commerce

Downham Market is still the market and business centre for a very fertile area that produces heavy crops of wheat and barley, sugar beet, potatoes, fruit and vegetables. This thriving agriculture is reflected, too, in large milling and agricultural engineering businesses in the town. The largest employer is the large mill beside the railway. As well as milling plain, self-raising and wholemeal flours, it produces food for horses and poultry.

The town, however, has many other trades and industries, making refrigerated rooms, upholstered furniture, suspended ceilings, stage curtain fittings, electronic control boards for theatres and radio stations, hot foil stamping machines, wood turning, etc., etc., a varied list indeed. There are also printers and publishers in the town.

Downham Market has a good shopping centre with ample free parking and a large number of banks, building societies, estate agents and insurance brokers.

The newly established industrial site guarantees the space and the services for expansion.
